Arrest made in fatal Oxnard shooting
OXNARD, Calif, - Oxnard Police have made an arrest in connection to Sunday's fatal shooting in the Channel Islands Harbor.
On September 27th on the 3500 block of Harbor Boulevard around 10:30 a.m., Oxnard police responded to reports of a shooting.
When they arrived, they found 48-year-old Rogelio Lara suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot area near the harbor. Police say Lara succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.
At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night, Oxnard Police Department Major Crimes Unit arrested, 23-year-old Gabriel Cortez for the murder of Lara..
Throughout the investigation, major crimes investigators worked with Oxnard’s Drug Enforcement Unit, Violent Crimes Unit and SWAT to uncover evidence which led to the arrest of Gabriel Cortez.
Cortez was already in custody at his time of arrest, for illegal firearm possession charges. He now faces murder charges.

The City of Oxnard offers a reward of $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any individuals responsible for committing homicides within the City.
