Cal Poly smashes UCSB 11-2 to begin three-game rivalry series

Cal Poly banged out 15 hits and used two big scoring innings to rout UCSB 11-2 in Big West Conference play.

Leading 2-0, the Mustangs broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning. Cal Poly also had a four-run eighth inning.

Mustangs pitcher Eric Uelmen celebrated his 21st birthday by allowing just five hits in 8-plus innings of work. He allowed a 2-run homer in the ninth to Austin Bush as the Gauchos avoided the shutout.

For Bush it was his Big West-leading 16th home run on the season and #30 for his career.

UCSB dropped to 7-12 in league and 22-28 overall.

Cal Poly is 12-7 in the Big West and 24-27 on the year.

Same two teams on Saturday at 2pm and again on Sunday at noon from UCSB.
