Veterans lunch honors those who served and their families in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A special Veterans Day lunch was served Thursday afternoon at the Veterans Memorial Building in Santa Barbara with volunteers preparing days in advance.

The open-air event in the outside courtyard also came with live music, dancing and speeches.

The kitchen was preparing meals for hundreds of vets and even enough for some to take "to-go."

This year, the meal was coordinated by realtor and founder of Adam's Angels, Adam McKaig along with the Santa Barbara Agricultural and Farm Education Foundation.

Leslie Person Ryan told the group her goal was, "to bring you a nutritious lunch.  From picking heirloom tomatoes to crushing walnuts you will see it all  and from Santa Barbara County organic farms today."

The menu featured farm vegetable lasagna or rigatoni, sausage, a mixed organic salad,, desert and beverages.

Free trolley transportation was provided from a nearby parking lot.

The group of volunteers is also hoping to serve for those in need on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
