MONTECITO, Calif. (KEYT) - The latest freeway widening segment of Highway 101 in Montecito is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.

The latest freeway widening segment of Highway 101 in Montecito is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.

There will be new carpool lanes and ramps similar to the other segments that continues to move the widening project forward towards a final connection with the three lanes in each direction in Santa Barbara.

The Santa Barbara County Association of Governments (SBCAG) has been getting regular updates from the contractor and Caltrans.

Executive Director Marjorie Kirn says the larger project around Hot Springs Road and Cabrillo Boulevard will still take about another year of work to reconfigure the car pool lanes and the ramps. "The last segment is the most difficult," said Kirn.

She is looking forward to the final phases to be completed and to be able to say "the 101 is finally done."
