OXNARD, Calif. - Singer Helen Reddy's death struck a sad chord with local musician Teresa Russell.

Russell played guitar in Reddy's band for a decade while touring the world.

The Australian singer is perhaps best known for the anthem "I am Woman."

Russell shared photos from their tours and visits while reminiscing on social media.

"We got the opportunity to see some amazing places and as formidable as Helen was she was really down to earth and fun and treated us like family. She even let us take the limo out on the town after the shows, so we are grateful to Helen for the opportunities she gave to us to share in her iconic life," said Russell.

Over the years Russell kept in touch with Reddy.

The singer, who suffered from dementia, died in Los Angeles at the age of 78.

Russell, known for performing often along the coast, has been performing outdoors to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
