Trump Administration fully restores DACA after federal court order

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – The Trump Administration fully restores the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program, or DACA, to new applicants, after a federal court order.

On Friday, a U.S. District judge said the department of homeland security had to accept applications by Monday.

This ruling follows one from November where the judge said acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf was unlawfully in his position.

DACA protects undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children from deportation.

More than 645,000 undocumented immigrants are in the program.

According to Migration Policy Institute, another 1 million could benefit from this new ruling.

“Allowing them to work legally, have social security, be able to further their education, it is exciting to see,” said immigrant advocate Susana Covarrubias

“Personally I believe, one president shouldn’t be allowed to issue an executive order and another one can’t rescind it,” said Lou Segal with the Santa Barbara County Republican Party. “I mean they are both doing the same thing.”

The Department of Homeland Security says it will comply with the order, but it's working on an appeal.
