New sidewalk links Old Town Goleta to Fairview Shopping Center

GOLETA, Calif. -- A busy freeway overpass just got safer for pedestrians. The City of Goleta just finished an extension of sidewalk along Fairview Avenue at the Hwy 101 overpass.

The nearly 200 feet of sidewalk was put along the north part of the road, at the curve up to get over the freeway.

City officials said the work cost about $60,000. And will help pedestrians have safer access to the shopping centers in that area.

Goleta Public Works director, Charlie Ebeling, said, “We had a gap in the sidewalk. The gap had been there for many years. We felt that it was important to fill in that gap so that we had a continuous sidewalk for pedestrians who are using Fairview and trying to get over to the Calle Real part of the city.”

The city is planning to extend the pedestrian safety project to add a pedestrian signal crosswalk on Calle Real near the Cajun Kitchen Cafe.
