Vandenberg inducts Space Force members
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - On Tuesday, 21 officers and enlisted members at Vandenberg Air Force Base became some of the first members to join the United States Space Force during a ceremonial induction.
At the ceremony, Major General John E. Shaw, U.S. Space Force’s Space Operations Command commander, told the newest members of USSF they will "Protect the interests of the United States in space; deter aggression in, from, and to space; and conduct space operations to defeat adversary threats.”
The newly commissioned members join their superiors and 86 U.S. Air Force Academy graduates as official members of the USSF.
USSF was created on December 20, 2019. Its stated mission is to organize, train and equip space forces in order to protect U.S. and allied interests in space and to provide space capabilities to the joint force. It is also responsible for developing military space professionals and acquiring military space systems.
