Pumpkin Patch Adventure Begins in Isla Vista

ISLA VISTA, Calif. (KEYT) The 6 Annual Isla Vista Halloween Pumpkin Patch isn't just about picking pumpkins, it is an immersive adventure through Anisq' oyo Park that culminates with a free pumpkin.

The Isla Vista Recreation and Park District started the patch to give students and community members an alternative way to celebrate.

The adventure also tells a scary, yet uplifting environmental story thanks to the district's collaboration with The Environment Makers, Inc., Flying Shade, Fishbon and other community partners.

"You can come to a free, family friendly [event] but you are still amazed on the activities offered no matter what age group," said event manager Kym Cochran.

"This event is going to take them on a journey to allow them to appreciate all our parks and open spaces," said UCSB alum and IV Parks office coordinator Taytum Camerun.

Isla Vista Recreation and Parks General Manager Kimberly Kiefer said the timing is fitting.

"Our park was established as a Special Election on Halloween, so there is history behind that I think, it is important for parks to be available and be creative and have fun event like this in parks," said Kiefer.

The Halloween Pumpkin Patch is open from 7-11 p.m. tonight and tomorrow night, Oct. 28th and 29th.

Park After Dark follows on Friday, Oct. 30th with bands on a main stage and a silent disco.
