Jalen Amir Yoakum Sentenced to 46 years for Abusing and Trafficking His Girlfriend

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – Jalen Amir Yoakum of Lancaster was sentenced to 46 years in state prison for the trafficking, exploitation, and abuse of a young woman over several months.

Yoakum was convicted by a Ventura County jury on June 29 of this year for human trafficking, sexual exploitation, pimping, pandering by encouragement, corporal injury to a cohabitant, and dissuading a witness by force or threat as well as several special allegations and aggravating factors including that the 25-year-old has a prior strike offense and targeted a vulnerable person.

In July 2024, Yoakum met the victim through Instagram and the two began dating before eventually moving in together detailed the local prosecutor's office.

The victim testified that Yoakum initially was caring before becoming increasingly controlling and physically violent by repeatedly assaulting and strangling her and isolating her from family and friends shared the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

Yoakum then coerced the woman into commercial sex work through threats and violence and created online advertisements, arranged appointments, controlled the services she performed, and collected nearly all of the money earned explained the prosecutor's office.

In January of 2025, Yoakum attacked his partner, leaving visible injuries to her face and body, and then left her to meet a person for sex while he used her vehicle to commit a series of crimes that ended in his arrest after a high-speed pursuit through Camarillo noted the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

During the investigation into Yoakum's actions in Camarillo, the survivor disclosed the extensive abuse she had endured and subsequent search warrants uncovered digital evidence, text messages, and location data that corroborated Yoakum's trafficking operation and the control he exerted over his partner stated the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

Yoakum is due back in court for criminal proceedings based on his actions in January of 2025 next month added the local prosecutor's office.

"This sentence delivers justice not only for the victim, whose courage exposed the defendant's exploitation and abuse, but also for every person harmed by his violence," Senior Deputy District Attorney Rikole Kelly shared. "The People are grateful to the Court for recognizing the seriousness of this conduct, the full scope of the danger the defendant has posed, and the need to protect the community from further harm."
