Heat continues, Monday Oct 5th forecast

KEYT

A double whammy is the culprit for our very hot start to October. High pressure has strengthened over much of the Western U.S and a very slight offshore flow has developed which when you put the two together, we see extreme heat from inland valleys to our coast. There is a slight chance that some ocean influence could sneak back in of the offshore winds weaken enough, otherwise overnight lows will stay very warm and highs on Monday will stay in the 90's to even low 100's. Extreme Heat Warnings are in play which means highs at least in the 90's. Much of the Central Coast will see Heat Advisory level conditions with maybe and hopefully some coastal spots staying below the 90 degree level.

Looking ahead, high pressure will continue to hold through at least mid week and then gradually weaken toward next weekend. For now, all advisories and warnings for this unusually long heat wave will stay through Wednesday for our northern areas and through Thursday in our southern regions. Hopefully, the high breaks a bit earlier and we lose the heat dome with the added extra offshore winds and things cool sooner. Just a slight turn in favor of a stronger sea breeze will help to chip away at the heat during the day and more noticeably at night with cooler overnight lows.  Farther south, our next tropical system, Hurricane Rachel continues to spin off the coast of southern Baja and should moves slowly northwest. However, by next weekend a Pacific storm will move in to Washington and Oregon which will be when we get the expected heat relief. As the system swings on shore, clouds will increase and Rachel could be far enough north to feed some moisture in to our region. It's still very early to call for any sort of rainfall, but we will need to keep a close eye on how this comes together next weekend.
