A nice Sunday ahead, Sept 13th forecast

Seeing a return of more coastal late night and early morning fog and much cooler weather has been a blessing for most of us after last week's tropical heat. A large trough of low pressure has parked itself off the coast of Oregon and Washington which is creating a moderate to strong onshore flow. While some much needed moisture is making it as far south as southern Oregon, northerly winds with no moisture is making for very dangerous fife condition in northern California and Nevada. Our own South Coast is under a Wind Advisory through very early Sunday which  could be reissued again for Sunday evening. The winds will be pushed a bit harder with the Sundowner effect enhancing the northerly flow. Gusts up to 45 mph could occur, especially below passes and canyons of or east to west Santa Ynez mountain range. As for temperatures, look for mostly 50's with patchy fog in windless areas and possibly 60's and even a few reading in the 70's where the wind blows late. Highs on Sunday will range from the 60's and 70's near the coast to the 80's farther inland.

Looking ahead, aside from the northerly wind concerns below our east to west coastal ranges, our weather looks pretty quiet for next week. A couple of tropical disturbances to our south should stay well out to sea and temperatures will stay on the mild side through about mid week. Coastal for will deepen in windless areas but still burn off nicely for most of our local beaches as the sea breeze stays on the moderate side. Building high pressure is expected late in the work week and that will lead to a warming trend by next weekend. Our forecast is seeing a possible return of mid 90's or warmer for our inland areas. At this time there are no watches posted, but that could change as we head toward the middle of the work week.
