Monday Evening Forecast Nov 22nd

Another day of of breezy warm offshore winds and some interesting clouds drifting up from the south. Overall, our main weather story is the offshore flow driven warmth which will take a break as we head in to Tuesday and a stronger onshore flow takes hold. Look for highs on Tuesday to drop back down to the 60's and 70's for most areas. The clouds drifting up from the south could produce a sprinkle or two, but that is hopeful at best. It's part of a cut off low moving north from off the coast of Mexico and these types of systems are never easy to predict. We do expect the clouds to push east with little affect other than keeping us on our toes monitoring it.

As is typical for Fall, weather changes come quickly and that's exactly what's ahead. More storm systems will continue to pass to our north with air masses moving in and moving out. This translates in to onshore and offshore flow patterns. That means Tuesday and part of Wednesday will see mild weather with a few clouds and light onshore winds. High pressure will build on Wednesday and by the late afternoon and evening, more Santa Lucia winds will develop. This offshore flow will then spread south in to Southern California and yet another Santa Ana wind will develop there. Widespread 70's and 80's are then expected for Thanksgiving and in to the start of next weekend. The winds could be quite strong and of course, higher fire danger will remain for much of the region. The winds will be enhanced by cold air rushing in from the northeast. While the offshore winds will warm the air mass with compressional heating, overnight lows in wind protected areas could dip to near and below freezing. In addition, the dry air mass will only make it that much easier to lose the daytime heating and make for some chilly overnight lows. A return of the mild onshore ocean winds is expected as we head in to early next week.
