San Marcos soccer nets two free kicks to beat rival Santa Barbara

San Marcos won at Santa Barbara 2-0 to move to 5-0 in the Channel League.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - San Marcos stayed undefeated in the Channel League with two well-executed free kicks in the second half as they shutout Santa Barbara 2-0 in boys soccer.

Early in the second half senior Luke Sheffey lofted a free kick 25 yards into the top left corner of the goal to give San Marcos a 1-0 lead in the 45th minute.

Senior Leonel Olivo blasted in a low free kick into the back of the net in the 75th minute for some insurance.

San Marcos improves to 5-0 in the Channel League.

Despite the loss Santa Barbara goalie Jeffery Lechuga made some outstanding saves to keep the Dons close.
