DP rallies to beat San Marcos to force a winner-take-all league title game on Friday
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Dos Pueblos scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning and stunned San Marcos 4-3 to move into a first-place tie in the Channel League with the Royals.
The two teams play on Friday in Goleta to decide the league championship on the final day of the regular season.
The Royals broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning only to see the Chargers rally back.
Ethan Rodriguez cut the deficit to 3-2 on a sacrifice fly.
With two runners in scoring position Joe Talarico hit a grounder in the hole that shortstop Aiden Mandel fielded but his long throw to first bounced in the dirt and got away allowing DP to score two runs on the play to take the lead.
Kellan Montgomery retired the Royals in order in the bottom of the seventh to close out the game and set up Friday's showdown.
