Sheldon and Connolly lead San Marcos past La Salle in first round playoff game

Max Sheldon scored 32 points to lead San Marcos to a CIF-SS Division 2A first round playoff win over La Salle.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Max Sheldon scored a game-high 32 points and fellow senior John Connolly added 22 points as San Marcos raced by La Salle of Pasadena 89-75 in a CIF-SS Division 2A first round boys basketball playoff game.

The Royals will play at Capistrano Valley Christian on Friday in a second round game.

Connolly got San Marcos off to a fast start with 3 three-pointers in the first quarter as the Royals led 22-14 after one quarter.

Sheldon took over from there as he scored 10 of his 12 first half points in the second quarter as San Marcos led 44-37 at the break.

Max Sheldon didn't slow down and neither did the Royals as they pulled away from La Salle in the second half.

Shakir Ahmad scored 18 points for San Marcos while Thomas Kinzler added 10 for the Channel League champs.
