San Marcos High School graduate Cole Schoenwetter is drafted early in the fourth round in the MLB Draft by Cincinnati

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Cole Schoenwetter didn't have to wait too long to hear his name called on the second day of the Major League Baseball Draft.

The recent San Marcos High School graduate was selected early in the fourth round (105 overall) by the Cincinnati Reds.

The hard-throwing right handed pitcher is also a UCSB-commit but he intends to sign with the Reds and begin his pro baseball career.

"I mean it feels amazing, it's really special, you work really hard for this moment," said Schoenwetter. "I am just so thankful that my parents put me in this position to become a professional athlete now."

Schoenwetter is excited to join a Reds organization that has been one of the biggest story lines of the Major League season with their exciting rookies leading them to a first place spot in the National League Central at the All-Star break.

"I knew they wanted me awhile ago I have talked to a bunch of their scouts and I was happy to get drafted by them," said Schoenwetter who did this interview on the same baseball field that he starred on for San Marcos over the last few seasons.

Schoenwetter led the Royals this past year to a third straight Channel League title and they advanced to the program's first-ever CIF-Southern Section title game.

After he signs Schoenwetter expects to pitch for the Reds rookie-level affiliate in the Arizona Complex League.
