Terminix International Agrees to $3.15 million Settlement Over Statewide Disposal Violations

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – Terminix International has agreed to pay $3.15 million to settle allegations of hazardous waste handling violations and improper disposal of customer records.

The settlement between 30 District Attorney's Office's statewide and Terminix International and Rentokil North America requires the companies to pay $2.65 million in civil penalties and investigation and enforcement costs detailed the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

Between 2021 and 2024, investigators found hundreds of instances of improper disposal of pesticides and other hazardous waste at Terminix facilities, including four current and former facilities in Ventura County, as well as improperly managed and disposed of customer records in violation of state privacy law explained the local prosecutor's office.

According to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office, their office will receive $10,000 in civil penalties and $1,250 in investigation and enforcement costs out of the settlement's total.

Terminix agreed to implement enhanced environmental compliance measures, employee training, annual reporting, and independent third-party audits of its California facilities for the next seven years noted the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

An additional $500,000 in civil penalties are suspended for the next seven years to ensure Terminix complies with the conditions of the settlement agreement shared the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.
