Motorcyclist dies after crashing into stopped vehicles on Highway 101 Sunday afternoon
VENTURA, Calif. – A 58-year-old Thousand Oaks man has died after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a stopped vehicle just before 3:00 p.m. north of California Street on southbound Highway 101 Sunday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol-Ventura Area (CHP), no major injuries were reported from the occupants of several other vehicles involved in the incident and the investigation into the fatal incident is ongoing.
On April 6, around 2:48 p.m. dispatchers began to receive calls about a traffic collision involving several vehicles and a motorcyclist on southbound Highway 101 north of California Street stated a press release Monday from the CHP.
After an initial investigation, it was determined that a black Volkswagon SUV had slowed to a full stop in response to stopped traffic on southbound Highway 101 detailed the CHP.
A white Tesla Model 3 and a black BMW 330e behind the traffic slowdown began to slow down in response when a black BMW 330i failed to observe the slow-down and rear-ended the other BMW explained the CHP.
The collision caused the BMW 330e to veer into a southeasterly direction and the BMW 330i veered in the same direction before striking the center divider and reenter the lanes of traffic before colliding with the white Tesla Model 3 shared the CHP.
According to the CHP, the 58-year-old driving a black Indian Scout motorcycle approached the incident and was unable to stop before running into the rear of the Tesla.
The motorcyclist was ejected by the collision and landed in the roadway stated the CHP.
Emergency responders provided immediate medical aid at the scene and the man was transported to Ventura County Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead shared the CHP.
His full identity has not been released as of Monday.
The crash shut down all lanes of the highway for two hours before reopening just before at 4:48 p.m. Sunday, detailed CHP.
