Head-on crash leaves a woman dead in Oxnard

OXNARD, Calif. - Oxnard police are investigating a fatal traffic accident that killed a Ventura woman and left a man with major injuries.

It happened on Rose Avenue at Central Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said 21-year-old Zachary Archuletadiaz of Port Hueneme was behind the wheel when he crossed over the median, and began driving the wrong way in the northbound lanes of Rose Avenue crashing head on into another car driven by a 67-year-old woman.

The unidentified woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 68-year-old passenger sustained major injuries and was taken to the Ventura County Medical Center.

Archuletadiaz also sustained major injuries.

He was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and will face felony charges.
