Santa Maria Valley Chamber bridging the gap between businesses and educational institutions

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – The Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce is asking businesses and educators to complete a "Workforce Needs" survey.

The Business Workforce Challenges Survey is intended to better understand the needs of businesses and employers and what challenges they are facing with employees.

Questions in the survey such as "From your personal experience, please specify any talent gaps you see in your business related to technical skills" and "How effective do you believe these partnerships are in preparing students for the workforce" will help the chamber understand what businesses need in terms of training for students.

Education Workforce Challenges Survey is intended to better understand what schools need to prepare their students for the workforce and if they are facing issues acquiring internship opportunities.

Questions such as "What are the biggest challenges in establishing and maintaining partnerships with local businesses" and "What types of businesses or industries do you think should be more involved in partnerships with schools?"

With the data from both surveys the chamber can see where the need is to help prepare the next generation workers in the Santa Maria Valley. The survey can help both employers and employees, have better prepared personnel and retain long term employees.

Businesses are currently facing challenges staffing available jobs, the goal is ensure locals are thriving in their communities after high school and college graduations.
