One person is dead and another injured following Monday morning collision west of Santa Maria

SANTA MARIA, Calif.- One person has died and another was transported with moderate injuries after a head-on collision between two vehicles early Monday morning on Main Street west of Santa Maria.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP)-Santa Maria Area, alcohol is considered a factor in this incident, but the investigation continues.

A call for a head-on collision came in around 1:39 a.m. on Highway 166 east of Simas Road detail CHP-Santa Maria Area.

Arriving first responders discovered that both drivers required extraction from their vehicles with one person, a 65-year-old Santa Maria man, declared dead on the scene explain the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The other person, a 27-year-old Santa Maria man, was transported with moderate lacerations to their legs and stomach to Marian Medical Center detail CHP-Santa Maria Area.

According to CHP-Santa Maria Area, an initial investigation revealed that the 27-year-old driver of a 2007 Toyota Camry was driving eastbound on Highway 166 at an unknown speed when, for still unconfirmed reasons, they veered over the double yellow lane and collided head-on with a westbound 2001 Infinity sedan.

The identity of the deceased man is pending notification of their next of kin explain Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
