Paul Nelson Aquatic Center reopens for recreation swimming

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – The Paul Nelson Aquatic Center in Santa Maria on Monday announced the return of recreation swimming for the spring season.

The center, located at 600 South McClelland Street, will be open on Saturdays throughout the month of May from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., according to city spokesman Mark van de Kamp.

Swimsuits are required for anyone entering the water, and approved waterproof swim diapers are required for children who are not potty-trained, van de Kamp said.

All swimmers must shower beforehand, and no inflatable swimming devices are allowed, he added.

Children under the age of five must be supervised by an adult over the age of 18 when in the water.

The center is free for children under the age of five, costs $1.50 for kids aged six to 17 and seniors over the age of 65, and costs $3 for people between the ages of 18 and 64.
