Planned burn underway north of Los Olivos

Travis Schlepp // KEYT

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. -- A planned burn is underway near Los Olivos on Wednesday.

The state-approved planned burn will be in the Spaulding/Midland area, around three miles north of Los Olivos.

Fire officials will be burning around 40 acres of the remaining chaparral sage scrubs and Oak Woodland with grass understory.

The planned burn is to help prevent the spread of wildfires by minimizing the brush and vegetation.

The burn can also reduce impacts to watersheds that can result in soil loss and sedimentation.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department with Santa Barbara County APCD, San Luis Obispo County APCD, San Joaquin Valley APCD, Ventura County APCD, and the California Air Resources Board are working together for this planned burn.
