Coast Village Week Features Food and Drink Specials, Dog Events and Exotic Cars

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - One of the most economically solid areas of Santa Barbara has a special week of events underway to showcase food, art, something for your dog and rare cars.

Coast Village Week takes place September 10-17. It opened with an art walk Thursday night.

It was called a, "unique evening celebrating Art and Designers along Coast Village Road".

The event included the Art of Table Setting, Oyster Shucking and live artists along the road.

Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. there will be a special area at Heritage Goods for photos with your dog and a "Top Dog" contest that will find the winner in the Montecito Journal. Monster whip treats will be served to the pups.

Sunday exotic cars take over from 9 a.m. until noon for those who like to see some of the rare and one of a kind vehicles that are normally tucked away in the Santa Barbara and Montecito area. They will be on display for a close up look.

Many restaurants have discounted and happy hour deals including light bites and drinks $10.00 and under.

Coast Village Association Executive Director Beth Sullivan said, "we are rolling out the hospitality, the shops, the fashion, the boutiques, all of the restaurants and everything that Coast Village  has to offer and we are inviting the community to participate. "

At the Caldwell Snyder Gallery Director Jennifer McCloskey, "people come out, they walk around the stores. Everytime we do an event, we hear people say, oh my its great to discover your gallery. We didn't know you were here,'  so there is an exuberance and energy."

She says there is "quite a buzz" about the area and often the first stop for people coming up from Los Angeles, Malibu and the San Fernando Valley.

The gallery is flanked by Belrose Estate Jewelry and the Los Arroyos restaurant. Also on that side of the street there is the new Sunstone wine lounge.

Across the street is the Honor Bar, the Veronica Beard boutique and Lucky's Restaurant.

Collaborating here and down the street with other businesses is viewed as a benefit for all from Hermosillo Road to Olive Mill Road.

A map showing the participating businesses has been prepared for Coast Village week.

The street is getting upgraded electrical services for new lighting and landscaping features in the months ahead.

McCloskey looks forward to it. "To see the street being  beautified  and pulling more people out it is very exciting.  We like the pretty!"

A special crew to spruce up the area is working on clean up and detailed projects on a regular basis.

You can already see some of the changes with colorful banners and flags on the light poles that feature a new Coast Village logo.

There are also a special locations for delivery vehicles now designated for the trucks to go in and out. That helps to free up parking spaces for the public.

A frequent shopper and local resident said she and her dog "Cupcake" find the area welcoming with every trip.

Cat Smith said, "it is world class. It is a very elegant town yet it is very approachable."    And she says you can park and leave your car. "It is so walkable and this marvelous mix of restaurant and stores."

The area has one of the more popular sites for strolling and sunsets nearby with a light walk and a special connector tunnel to Butterfly Beach.
