Commerce man arrested in connection with stabbing at Santa Barbara Harbor Thursday

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – Ivan Hernandez, 49, of Commerce was arrested in connection with a stabbing early Thursday that hospitalized a man.

On April 2, around 5:30 a.m., officers responded to a reported assault near the Santa Barbara Landing at the Harbor stated a press release from the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Arriving officers found an adult man with multiple injuries and he was transported from the scene to Cottage Hospital where he is currently listed in stable condition shared the Santa Barbara Police Department.

The identity of the stabbing victim is not being released at this time noted the Santa Barbara Police Department.

According to Santa Barbara Police, an investigation revealed that the man had been involved in a verbal altercation with multiple people in the Harbor area and that verbal dispute escalated into a physical altercation which resulted in the stabbing.

Around 6 p.m. Thursday, officers were conducting additional investigations and interviews at the Harbor when they spotted a man matching the description that had been obtained earlier in the day and watched as the man was disembarking on a local fishing vessel detailed the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Officers took the man, later identified as 49-year-old Ivan Hernandez of Commerce, into custody and he was booked on charges including assault with a deadly weapon explained the Santa Barbara Police Department.

The Santa Barbara Police Department shared that based on the investigation of the incident, the stabbing appears to have been isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the general public.
