Man rescued from high tide after running from law enforcement in Isla Vista
ISLA VISTA, Calif. - A 19-year-old Isla Vista man is in custody for battery charges after fleeing from police into the ocean to avoid arrest, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.
The teenager threatened to shoot people and deputies later found the suspect at the 6600 block of Sabado Tarde before chasing after him on foot, detailed the SBCSO.
The 19-year-old then jumped from the bluffs onto the beach below where he eventually became washed up by high tide before Santa Barbara County Fire responders removed him from the cliff.
SBCSO deputies learned that the teenager punched someone in the face, vandalized another person's vehicle and threatened to shoot others prior to contacting him.
The teenager was booked into the Main Jail after medical clearance for charges of felony criminal threats and assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, detailed the SBCSO.
The 19-year-old is currently being held with a $50,000 bail and also faces misdemeanor charges of vandalism, fighting in public and resisting arrest, explained the SBCSO.
