No lifeguards on duty at Santa Barbara city beaches after Labor Day

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – As temperatures soar across the Central Coast, beachgoers looking to cool off need to know that the City of Santa Barbara will not staff lifeguards at city beaches this weekend.

City staff said the seasonal beach lifeguard program ends after Labor Day.

Tony Sholl, the city's aquatic supervisor, provided some safety tips for beachgoers.

"Some of the best things you can do is know your limits, swim with other people, if you are with a group, have somebody designated as a water watcher," said Sholl.

Sholl also recommended to not swim intoxicated and stay hydrated.
