Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – On Wednesday, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office shared that a hidden camera was found in the front yard of a county residence in April and other law enforcement agencies across the state have encountered similar incidents.

On Apr. 16, 2024, deputies were called to the 200 block of Via El Encantador east of Goleta when gardeners found a hidden camera in the front yard of a single-family home stated the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the camera was mostly buried, covered with camouflage tape and plants, and was mostly concealed except for the lens.

The device had a battery pack, power cord, and a camera with a memory card and all of those materials have been processed as evidence detailed the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.

Additional reports of "very similar cases" have been shared by other California law enforcement agencies and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office encourages anyone who discovers a similar device to immediately report it to law enforcement.
