Student Art Exhibition to showcase nearly 200 elementary school kids art in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The community is about to get a glimpse into a world of artistry through the eyes of children in Santa Barbara.

“It’s definitely a glimpse of the world you can how they perceive owls in many different ways … they have plants and then these beautiful pears, so hand drawing and pencil drawing," said organizer Nancy Hutterer of the Student Art Exhibit.

Hosted by the South Coast Kids Create, the Student Art Exhibition will shed light on the arts in education from Goleta to Carpinteria.

“Some schools do not have an art program per se, but they create in their classrooms and to be able to have all these different type of art in one place ... will gives stimulation to the program," said artist Mariko Tabar of Santa Barbara.

The exhibition will feature the art work of nearly 200 students from 19 elementary schools throughout the Santa Barbara area.

"We believe it’s important to celebrate the arts to highlight that access to arts. Education is a civil right for every student that it’s not a luxury and it’s not an extracurricular. It’s the arts for everyone," said program associate Erin Sawyer of the Children's Creative Project.

Organizers of the art exhibit hope the community will come by to help celebrate student artists.

"We also invited many city officials county officials, and they are very excited to be part of it," said Tabar.

Leaders of South Coast Kids Create hope to continue shining a light on local children's art work for years to come.

The event will take place on Saturday, May 4 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Santa Barbara County Education Office Auditorium at 4400 Cathedral Oaks Road.
