Santa Barbara City Firefighter rescues kitten in Glass Fire burn zone
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - An amazing story of survival in fire-ravaged Sonoma County involving a weeks-old kitten.
The Santa Barbara City Fire Department shared the heart-warming incident this week on its Facebook page. A CAL FIRE photographer captured the emotional moment.
Amber Anderson, a Wildland Specialist working Damage Assessment in the Glass Fire region, came across a mewing, 10-week old kitten under the wreckage of a burned-out truck near a damaged home.
Anderson said somehow that Tortoiseshell kitten (named for its black/orange markings) was able to survive on its own for up to a week.
Little "Tortie" as she's now called, was handed over to the experts at Napa Animal Control, where she's being cared for and rehabilitated and is said to be doing "very well."
CAL FIRE said Tortie is one of the lucky ones and they hope to reunite her with her owners.
Anderson, a 20 year veteran firefighter, is among 13 SBFD personnel assigned to several incidents around the state.
All local stations are fully staffed during the ongoing fires.
