Fire Teams Successfully Battled 2500-Acre Vegetation Fire in Carrizo Plains

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – Fire teams responded to an approximately 2500-acre vegetation fire off of Soda Lake Road in the Carrizo Plains.

The fire initially started on Wednesday, Aug. 12 and as 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, the fire is completely contained confirmed the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The images below were taken by CalFire personnel at the scene of the fire and shared publicly on the morning of Aug. 13, 2026.

According to the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department, the fire was near the 9400 block of Soda Lake Road and had a moderate rate of spread through grasses as a full wildland fire response made its way to the scene Wednesday.

Rolling hills and winds complicated the joint response by San Luis Obispo and Kern County-based fire crews shared the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department.
