SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The City of San Luis Obispo is nearing completion of major upgrades to its Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF).

It's considered one of the largest public works projects in city history.

The WRRF is responsible for treating all of the wastewater within the City of San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly and the SLO County Regional Airport.

The facility treats 4.5 million gallons of wastewater 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

When completed, the 90-year-old plant will be able to collect and treat wastewater with fewer chemicals and less reliance on reservoir water and groundwater supplies.
