Cal Poly students honor veterans by painting iconic “P” red
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - More than a dozen of Cal Poly’s Center for Military-Connected Students — a group of about 550 vets and dependents — took part in a 20-minute march up the northwestern hill behind campus Sunday to participate in a salute, of sorts, to veterans.
The group pulled out brushes, rollers and a bucket of red paint and coated the white landmark Cal Poly "P" in symbolic red.
The honor was bestowed, in part, to their counterparts deployed overseas and local veterans who can see the massive "P" as they pass by the area below.
The hilltop landmark offers sweeping vistas of the campus and city of SLO.
