Grover Beach Begins Vegetation Cleanup Ahead of El Niño

Dave Alley | KEYT

GROVER BEACH, Calif. (KEYT) - The City of Grover Beach is beginning a weeklong vegetation management project along Meadow Creek starting Monday, Oct. 26.

The work is designed to reduce the risk of flooding and property damage ahead of a potentially strong El Niño event.

The project is a partnership between the City of Grover Beach, Five Cities Fire Authority and Fire Safe Council SLO, and will include tree trimming, removal of overgrown and dead vegetation, wood chipping and trash debris cleanup.

Work is scheduled to take place each day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, Oct. 30.

During the project, El Camino Real, which runs parallel alongside southbound Highway 101 will be closed from north of N. 12th Street to south of the construction site at 950 El Camino Real.

Local traffic will be rerouted, but the U.S. Highway 101 ramps at Fourth Street (Exit 189) and Oak Park Boulevard (Exit 188) will remain open.

Grover Beach is taking a number of precautions as forecasts point to the possibility of a very strong El Niño during fall and winter 2026-27.

The City noted that while El Niño does not guarantee severe weather or flooding on the Central Coast, officials are encouraging residents to prepare for potential impacts.
