Cleanup efforts on piles of beach debris continues this week

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Cleanup continues on many beaches impacted by the storm debris.

Heavy equipment has been working this week on debris piled up in areas such as Leadbetter Beach in Santa Barbara.

Some of the debris came directly from creeks in the area, and some arrived with currents and tides.

A special grooming machine was also used to smooth out the sand and restore it to its best appearance.

Many similar projects to restore the beaches are a collaboration between the waterfront staff and crews from the Santa Barbara parks and recreation department.
