Old Spanish Days collaborates with local businesses to create a strong Fiesta economy
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - With Old Spanish Days coming to Santa Barbara next week, the event serves as an economic booster for the area.
El Presidente David Bolton joined community and business leaders on State Street to encourage the public come come out for Fiesta activities and continue to support local retail and restaurant sites citywide.
The CEO of the South Coast Chamber of Commerce Kristen Miller said, "from the business community perspective we love that Fiesta is on the whole South Coast because so many businesses are around those mercados." She says more and more businesses are adding decorations and ordering more supplies. "Everybody's preparing right now and we will be open for business ready to celebrate."
They stood together where State St. meets De la Guerra. It is an area that is relatively quiet now but will have thousands of people filling the street and sidewalks during Old Spanish Days Aug. 2-6.
Business owners also said they are hoping those who are local residents or front the regional area not only come out for Fiesta activities but come back after Old Spanish Days and shop locally.
Mayor Randy Rowse said he is hoping those who are attending events along the waterfront, Old Mission or the courthouse, will also celebrate with friends and family members in other areas. He said it is vital for the economy and the local work force, especially employees who rely on these big events to have more hours or in some cases more tips.
