Lompoc teen killed in Santa Maria shooting
SANTA MARIA, Calif. — A 14-year-old teen from Lompoc was killed in a shooting Friday night in Santa Maria, according to the Santa Maria Police Department.
Santa Maria police say the shooting happened at approximately 10:00 p.m. on the 1300 block of South Bradley Road.
Officers heard gunshots after arriving to the scene to check on "an extremely large gathering" at a nearby Costco parking lot.
"While in the area, officers heard gunshots fired from within the large crowd," said Lt. Daniel Rios. "Officers moved towards the gunfire and located two gunshot wound victims amongst the crowd."
Rios says that's when the 14-year-old was shot and died as a result of his injuries at the scene of the shooting.
A second victim, a 21-year-old man from Guadalupe, suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
The name of the juvenile from Lompoc was not released by SMPD.
Santa Maria detectives believe a number of witnesses that were in the area left without police contact and need to be interviewed.
