Solvang to reopen Copenhagen Drive to vehicle traffic Feb. 2

SOLVANG, Calif. - Back in June 2020, Solvang closed off popular street Copenhagen Drive for outdoor dining and foot traffic due to COVID-19.

Fast forward to January 2022, Copenhagen is planned to reopen to vehicular traffic on February 2nd.

The past 18 months included parklets for additional outdoor dining, an adjustment that was necessary for restrictions from the pandemic.

But with problems coming from congestion on other streets in Solvang along with a lack of parking, the city has decided to reopen the popular street.

The decision for reopening is set, but the idea of an outdoor scene with foot traffic and dining is not off the table for the future, however, according to the city.

They plan to continue discussions with nearby businesses on how they can create an area similar to how Copenhagen Drive was for the city these past 18 months.

The goal is to provide a more European atmosphere with outdoor activities and dining.

An outdoor scene may not be put on Copenhagen Drive, but it could be placed somewhere in the city of Solvang in the near future.

Discussions are currently in the works.
