UPDATE: Lucia Mar District accepts resignation from superintendent
UPDATE: The district has accepted the resignation at its February, 18 meeting.Â
The district will now be hiring a search firm to assist in hiring a new superintendent.
SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. - Andy Stenson, superintendent of the Lucia Mar Unified School District, has resigned from his position, the school district announced.
Stenson has served as superintendent since 2018 and has spent multiple years in a cabinet position with the district. His resignation takes effect on June 30.
The reasoning for his resignation wasn't given, but the school district says stepping down will allow him to "create a better balance for himself and his family."
Stenson has asked the school district to reassign him to a different position within the district for the 2020-21 school year.
"Mr. Stenson has always been an exemplary example of TEAM Lucia Mar and while we will miss his leadership as our superintendent, he will remain a valued member of our district family," said School District Board President Vicki Meagher.
The school board will discuss Stenson's request for reassignment and his eventual replacement in the next scheduled board meeting.
The Lucia Mar Unified School District is the largest school district in San Luis Obispo County, serving more than 10,000 students.
