Cal Poly police investigating another rape on campus

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Cal Poly Police Department is investigating a second rape reported on campus in the last week.

According to a University notification, the rape took place on Sunday at an undisclosed location within the Poly Canyon Village Apartments – a section of university housing.

The suspected attacker has been described as a white man, 5-foot-10 with blonde curly hair and a slender build.

This latest assault comes just a few short days after the university announced it was investigating a rape at Cal Poly's Architecture Graveyard, which is located near the same university housing where Sunday's assault occurred.

It's unclear if these rapes are connected, but Cal Poly police is investigating both attacks and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office has offered support in the investigation.

Cal Poly President Jeffrey D. Armstrong says Cal Poly is working to provide complete support to anyone who may need it following the attacks on campus.

Safer, which provides confidential resources for the campus community for addressing sexual assault, intimate partner violence, domestic violence, stalking, sexual exploitation and harassment can be contacted by phone at 805-756-2282 or by email. Cal Poly Counseling Services can be contacted at 805-756-2511.

"Every sexual assault is heartbreaking. The news of assaults brings up a range of emotions for everyone. The university is here to support everyone who is affected by this incident," Armstrong said in a letter to the university.

Anyone with possible information about the rape is urged to contact the Cal Poly Police Department at 805-756-2281. If you are interested in providing an anonymous tip, you can call San Luis Obispo County Crime Stoppers at 805-549-7867. Armstrong said any tips that lead to an arrest could result in a reward.
