CAMARILLO, Calif. - Ventura County District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced that a former president of the Camarillo Fiesta Association was sentenced after pleading guilty to grand theft.
Nathaniel Newell Hunnicutt, 38, of Columbus, Ohio became president of the Fiesta Association in late 2016.
The District Attorney's Office said that from February of 2017 through December of 2017, Hunnicutt stole about $33,500 total from the association by periodically withdrawing cash from its bank account.
In a separate theft, Hunnicutt reportedly stole more than $12,600 of the proceeds from the association's July 2017 Camarillo Fiesta event. Hunnicutt then allegedly returned $30,000 to the association before the theft drew the attention of law enforcement.
Ventura County Superior Court Judge Bruce Young sentenced Hunnicutt to 90 days in custody and 36 months in formal probation for the theft.
Prior to being sentenced, Hunnicutt paid $20,732.50 in restitution.
This incident's investigation was conducted by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, Bureau of Investigation.
