Santa Barbara police arrest 2 teens following stolen vehicle pursuit

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Santa Barbara Police Department arrested two teenagers and apprehended two minors after a brief stolen vehicle pursuit and foot pursuit in February.

On February 6, Santa Barbara police received a report from a resident who said their Subaru Outback was stolen from the 300 block of W. Padre Street.

Police said the keys had been accidentally left inside the car, but the Subaru was equipped with a STARLINK tracking system which revealed its location at the 100 block of Turnpike Road in Goleta.

Santa Barbara Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to that area and found the vehicle with four people inside. The deputies tried to perform a traffic stop, but the car fled.

A brief pursuit then ensued, but the four occupants fled the car on foot at La Buena Tierra in Goleta.

The deputies searched the area and found two juvenile suspects, but the remaining to suspects were not found.

Together, the Santa Barbara Police Department and Sheriff's Office identified and located the remaining two suspects.

Police successfully arrested 18-year-old Carlos Gabriel Barajas on Feb. 20. The SBPD Special Enforcement Team found and arrested 18-year-old Carlos Manuel Rivera-Buenrostro on Feb. 28.

Both suspects were arrested for charges related to the stolen car and the pursuit.
