Lompoc Man’s Death Under Investigation as a Homicide

LOMPOC, Calif. (KEYT) – The body of a Lompoc man in his 50s was recovered Saturday near the 400 block of North I Street and his death is now part of an active homicide investigation.

On July 18, around 2:31 p.m., officers were sent to the 400 block of I Street after a report was received about a death investigation, stated a press release from the Lompoc Police Department.

Arriving officers found a deceased person, later identified to Your News Channel as a Lompoc man in his 50s, and the man was found with injuries consistent with an assault, noted the local law enforcement agency.

Authorities identified the victim as a resident and are working to contact the man's next of kin, added the Lompoc Police Department.

According to Lompoc Police, evidence collected during a preliminary investigation led investigators to the 400 block of North G Street.

"I don't think there's any threat to the public at this stage," says Lompoc Police's Sgt. Scott Morgan. "We think it's an isolated incident. The detectives are—have obviously taken over the case, and they're still trying to reach out to next of kin. So that's a process that's going on now, and they're obviously conducting follow up and trying to, you know, talk to people, canvas and neighborhood, figure out if there's any witnesses."

The investigation into the man's death remains under investigation and anyone with additional information is asked to contact the local police department at 805-736-2341 and ask for Detective Corporal Magaña.
