MOS Equipment strengthens forensics investigations with preservation technology

SANTA BARBARA, Calif - Santa Barbara-based MOS Equipment honored local law enforcement agencies and forensic investigators during a special event Wednesday at its Ortega St. office.

The digital tech company donated nearly $50,000 in cutting-edge digital evidence security equipment used in forensic investigations: Mission Darkness faraday bags and so-called analysis enclosures.

Each piece of equipment is valued at roughly $11,000 apiece.

"The equipment we're giving away is used to block mobile device signals," said Ryan Judy, CEO of MOS Equipment. "This is blocking wifi signals, cell signals, GPS (Global Positioning System). What that's for is, it's part of the digital forensics process to make sure that criminals cannot remote wipe digital evidence."

Guests of honor included representatives from the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office and Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office as well as the Santa Barbara Police Department -- those specializing in digital forensics.

The company said its products, which are also used by military forensic specialists, play a pivotal role in preserving digital evidence in criminal investigations.

MOS Equipment is touted as a global leader in Radio frequency (RF) shielding solutions. In the company's case, MOS stands for 'Mountain, Ocean, Sky.'
