San Luis Obispo County emphasizes health risks of Coronavirus
San Luis Obispo, Calif. - The San Luis Obispo County Public Health Department has issued it's latest update on the Coronavirus and what is being done to protect county residents.
COVID-19 Coronavirus risk in San Luis Obispo County remains low, but adds the county could see cases emerge in the near future. There are no confirmed cases.
Statewide there has been more than 50 cases with one recent death to an elderly adult believed to have contracted the virus on a cruise ship.
The County Public Health Department says Covid-19 is not nearly as deadly or contagious as measles or the seasonal flu. Those with highest risk factors are the elderly who suffer from chronic disease or with weak immune systems.
San Luis Obispo County is working to have COVID-19 testing capabilities in it's public clinics for a limited number of ill patients. The county health department is urging residents to stay calm. And insisting there is no need for stockpiling household goods or masks. There are also no plans to cancel school or public events. The health department is also advising residents not to go to a hospital emergency room unless immediate attention is needed.
San Luis Obispo's Public Health Department is in daily contact with federal, state and local agencies and other healthcare providers on the spread of the Coronavirus. The health department says it will continue to provide updates.
