SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The most secure public ballot box ever made in Santa Barbara County has arrived in time for the upcoming surge of ballots in the 2020 General Election.

30 specially made boxes are being installed countywide.

To locate one near you go to: Santa Barbara County Election Ballot Drop Boxes.

Each location was chosen because it is in a prominent location, that is highly visible and safe.

The boxes have two locks. One is at the ballot slot. The other is in the bin where two election workers will pick up ballots daily. That schedule could be increased depending on the turnout.

The Registrar of Voters Joe Holland says the boxes will be unlocked October 5, the first day of voting. They will be locked at 8 p.m. on Election Day. Anyone still in line at that time will be allowed to drop off their ballot. Those arriving afterwards, will miss the deadline.
