Nicolas Holzer found guilty of killing family at their Goleta Valley home
A Santa Barbara judge ruled 48-year old Nicolas Holzer was guilty of killing his parents, William Charles Holzer, 73, and Sheila Garard Holzer, 74, and his two sons, Sebastian, 13, and Vincent, 10 on Aug. 11, 2014
The judge found Holzer guilty on Monday of all four counts of murder and enhancements after a trial that lasted less than two days.
Prosecutors played video of the interrogation done after Holzer’s arrest.
In the video, Holzer tells police that people had instructed him to commit the murders. The video also showed Holzer telling police that he had hit and killed a jogger and killed a friend’s sister. Neither of those claims has been substantiated.
In a cross-examination of a police officer on the stand, Holzer’s defense attorney Christine Voss said her client also claimed to be involved with the missing Malaysian Airliner and starting the AIDS virus.
Holzer’s defense attorney is trying to build a case that Holzer was insane when he stabbed his young sons and parents in their Goleta Valley home.
The sanity phase of his criminal trial begins on May 30, 2018.
