Man arrested on suspicion of residential burglary in Ventura County
A man was arrested Friday after police say he broke into a home in Ventura County and stole multiple items.
On Friday morning police arrested 30-year-old Gerardo Salgado after an alarm call prompted officers to be dispatched to a residence located on the 100 block of Park Row Avenue.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a broken window and Salgado inside. Salgado claimed to live in the residence, according to Sergeant Edward Caliento of the Ventura County Police Department.
Caliento said police contacted the homeowner who said he didn’t know the suspect.
Items from the residence were found on Salgado’s person.
According to Caliento, the homeowner’s security video showed Salgado and a woman casing the home about an hour before Salgado broke in. The woman was later identified as 33-year-old Janelle Morris.
The homeowner saw Morris in his backyard a couple of hours later, and called the police at about 4:30 a.m. Morris was taken to into custody and could face charges for prowling.
Salgado was taken to Ventura County Jail and booked for residential burglary.
According to police, Morris and Salgado are both homeless.
