Santa Barbara orthopedic surgeon under investigation by the District Attorney

Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce Dudley has confirmed that Dr. Richard Scheinberg, an orthopedic surgeon with offices in Santa Barbara, Oxnard, Santa Maria and Bakersfield, is “under investigation.” However, the DA would not say why.

A NewsChannel crew visited Scheinberg’s office at 401 Chapala St., Ste. 102 and saw at least a handful of plainclothes detectives coming into and out of the building.

The Scheinberg Orthopedic Group’s website states that the surgeon has “more than 30 years practice experience. In addition to his private orthopedics practice, Dr. Scheinberg is currently on staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, the Pueblo Surgery Center and Carrillo Surgery Center.”

It is unclear if or how the District Attorney’s investigation has impacted Scheinberg’s standing at Cottage Hospital and other facilities.
